Ancient Olympics – The Olympics, said to be founded by Hercules, are a series of contests organized by the ancient Greeks held to honor their gods (namely Zeus). Though this famous festival was only one day of events to begin with, it expanded to five full days of events around the time of 472 B.C. Each of the events that were hosted in the games was a test of speed, strength, stamina, cunning, or all four. Events in the Olympics included sprinting and long-distance (depending on how many stadium lengths were ran), wrestling, boxing, pancratium (a combination of wrestling and boxing), horse and chariot racing, long-jumping, javelin-hurling, and discus-throwing.
